Every registered domain has a minimum of 2 Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain to the servers of a specific website hosting company. That way, you have got both your website and your emails managed by the exact same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, when you enter a domain name in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you may be directed to the servers of another service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the website and the emails means that you could have your website and your emails with two different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting from our company, you are going to be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. As long as a given domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify specific records via our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or e-mails pointed to any other service provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool is going to allow you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address in any way. If you decide to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with just a couple of clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You may also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, included with our semi-dedicated servers, allows you to see the A and MX records for every one of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to edit any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you 100 % control of all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are switching your e-mails to a different provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
